Our
Great Aunt's Passing: Our
aunt was one of those people who you thought
would be around forever. She was in her
90's, and seemed as healthy as ever. We
would see her usually about once a year,
but that was ok, since she was still very
active, and had many friends and social
outlets.
She
was just wonderful to be around. Her home
always smelled delicious - kind of like
Thanksgiving, but year-round. She loved
to cook biscuits, and I loved waking up
at her house when I was a kid knowing
that breakfast would be spectacular.
As
an adult, it is easy for time to pass
by without paying much attention to it,
and it is just as easy to forget about
relatives, thinking that "We'll see
them soon" or "I'll call her
next week."
When
we got the call that our beloved Great
Aunt was in the hospital, those were the
thoughts that were going through my mind.
I wish I had called more, or written more.
The hospital staff told us that she didn't
have long, so we made the decision to
make the trip out to see her one last
time. I am thankful that we made it. She
passed away a few days later.
Losing
a loved one immediately stirs up intense
feelings of isolation, sadness, anger,
and regret. The world can seem lonely
during times of grieving.
A
